THE EPICA AWARDS AND CREATIVE CIRCLE WILL STAY IN AMSTERDAM#1

Maydream, the French parent company of the Epica Awards, has decided that the Epica Awards and Creative Circle conference will once again take place in Amsterdam in 2019.

Philippe Paget, CEO of Maydream (also the owner of AdForum) said: "The recent Amsterdam edition was the best since the Epica Awards relaunched as a global competition five years ago. As one of the most important creative cities in the world, Amsterdam is the ideal place for an event like Epica. Both the theme of our Creative Circle, ‘Will responsibility kill creativity?" and the location were an excellent fit. Many thanks to partner Kyra Roest and her team, and to Adformatie as our journalistic partner. It was an astounding success! That's why we immediately decided to come back to Amsterdam next year."

I think the Epicas are an important independent award, especially in times like these. (...) I also think it's really important for Amsterdam, as a creative city, to host an international advertising event.

A passionate plea

Kyra Roest (Ad Business), who organised the Epica Awards and Creative Circle in the Netherlands, said: "It was an honor to bring the Epica Awards and the conference back to the Netherlands for the second time since 2016. It’s an even greater honor to learn that Maydream is calling this edition 'The best Epica ever'."

Roest changed the set-up of the day program by adding round table sessions in addition to the plenary one. "Over a hundred people (brands, agencies, opinion leaders, journalists) listened intently to stories about brands that are taking a social stand, and discussed the issue of responsibility in the industry as a whole."

Nathalie Lam of Philips gave an especially personal and passionate plea to truly embrace diversity, which resonated with attendees.

In the evening, a large audience of local and international winners, agencies and creatives watched a presentation of the year's best work – selected by hundreds of journalists from all corners of the earth - on the big screen at the Royal Tropical Institute. The after-party was also a resounding success.

Creative capital of Europe

Nils Adriaans, jury member and co-organizer (responsible for communication and content) added: "I think the Epicas are an important independent award, especially in times like these. This year, however, we realized that the event still wasn't 100% top of mind at a local level. Now we’ve got another opportunity to expand Epica Amsterdam as a 'brand', if you will. I also think it's really important for Amsterdam, as a creative city, to host an international advertising event. With it, we can only enhance our position as an international capital of creativity, especially with regard to London and the upcoming Brexit."
